Donation FAQs
Is my donation tax-deductible?
You bet it is! High Country News is a 501(c)(3) charity.
Our Federal Tax ID number is: 23-7015336.
How is High Country News funded?
You can peruse our most recent annual report for details and stories about our impact. Over 75% of our annual budget comes from readers like you. We also receive grants that make up about 20% of our revenue, and the remainder comes in from advertising on our Marketplace.
Why should I donate to High Country News? I already paid for a subscription.
And we thank you! Reliable subscription revenue helps us keep the lights on and our reporters in the field. But subscriptions alone do not cover the cost of our Westwide operation. We rely on subscribers who are able to give above and beyond the price of the magazine – every dollar you donate and every subscription you purchase helps make this people-powered publication possible.
What does my donation support?
Reader contributions support everything from keeping the lights on and the computers working, to sending our journalists on reporting trips, to artfully laying out the magazine for print, to producing our web-exclusive content. In short, we couldn’t produce our stories without you!
For more details on what donor contributions fund, check out our annual report.
How do donor recognitions in your magazine and website work?
We thank our generous donors in every print issue. Everyone who donates $50 or more will have their name listed in the pages, unless you wish to remain anonymous. (We also acknowledge donations made in memory of, or in honor of, another person or group..) The elapsed time between when a donation is made and when it is recognized in the magazine is generally about six weeks.
